Maroba is in lockdown
28 April 2022
Good afternoon family and friends,
Further to my email this morning, the situation changed dramatically for Maroba overnight with a positive test result for a resident in our Waratah suburb. As late as 2.30pm today another Waratah resident has reported feeling unwell and returned a positive RAT test.
Together with the consistently high case numbers in the Hunter region, we have made the difficult decision to cease general visitation immediately for the whole facility until further notice.
The situation is fluid and changing constantly. We are waiting for news from the Public Health Unit as to how we can proceed moving forward.
All residents in Waratah have been PCR tested and we await to hear the results. The residents who are covid positive remain isolated in their rooms as far as possible. Other residents in the Waratah suburb are able to move about their area.
All staff in Waratah are in full PPE and are being supplied with food and refreshments to ensure they are supported with their health during their shift. Staff continue to be segregated where possible although we continue to experience staffing shortages due to exposures. The risk is being managed as best as we can.
Exercise programs continue by our Wellness team in each suburb (and where possible in the Waratah suburb) and those family members who would normally provide care for their loved one continue to enter the building to continue their caring duties.
With regards to Mother’s Day, it is still early days, and we don’t know what will happen in the next 9-10 days. As soon as we can determine the best course of action for Mother’s Day and visiting arrangements, we will let you know. You may wish to consider gifts being delivered.
On another note, we say goodbye to Sarah today. Sarah is our Executive Assistant and Communications Coordinator and has assisted the team greatly over the last three years with our updates, Maroba Connects and posting on our FaceBook page. Sarah will continue to work on occasion with Maroba, so you may still see her name pop up on a future email.
Stay safe and well.
Yours sincerely,
Viv Allanson
