Greeting Residents, Family and Friends
I am delighted to report that our Covid positive residents in Waratah are well on the way to recovery and all other residents passed their RAT with a negative result.
We have not had any new staff cases since the 8th but do expect we will experience more given that the virus is still circulating in our region with the highest rates in the state. All staff that have been unwell are recovering but most are experiencing ongoing fatigue, however they are very glad to be able to return to work and of course we welcome their return to the team.
After seeking approval to come out of lockdown from the Public Health Unit I can provide their advice as follows: “Following review of recent testing results of the residents of Maroba Waratah, the Public Health Unit has determined that the COVID-19 outbreak may be declared over as of 14th May 2022.”
I can report that Mother’s Day visiting went very well and there were lots of smiles across Maroba. Thanks for everyone who visited and for being so patient with the concierge team, you made our day, and it was a special treat for me to catch up with so many that I haven’t seen for a long time. Someone even made us fresh muffins to sustain us. Flowers arrived and I got to see the delight on the faces of the recipients as I delivered them …that was Gold!
I also thank the Maroba staff who made sure all the ladies received a special Mother’s Day gift delivered to their breakfast table or tray from Maroba and all those who made sure everyone was ready for their family outings. It was a real team effort!
On the Vaccination front we are still getting strong messages from NSW health to encourage people to get the FluVax as soon as possible. The concern remains very palpable that the Flu season has arrived in full force already and that community vaccination rates are low. So even though the FLUVAX is not mandatory this year for visitors may I urge you to consider further protecting yourself. Remember the severity of illness from the various strains of Influenza is very real and can be life threatening, and of course is easily shared with others. Please step up and play your part in community prevention options. Already 113 Maroba staff have accessed the Fluvax vaccination opportunity, and all eligible staff have had their 3rd Covid booster dose.
We have obtained a small supply if 4th dose Covid vaccines ready for the next resident vaccination clinic. If you haven’t already provided consent, please go to the link on our website and complete the form or ask at reception for a hard copy if you can access the website.
Visiting arrangements will continue as they are for now as follows:
General Visitation (Excluding Waratah as residents are not able to have visitors currently except under special arrangement):
- In room visiting for 2 fully vaccinated visitors (aged 12 years and over) in a 24-hour period. Visitation will only be on weekdays between 10am and 4pm. No need to make an appointment.
- Outside visiting for up to 2 fully vaccinated adults and 2 children under 12 between 10am and 4pm. Bookings are essential for outside visits so please call reception between 9am to 4pm to arrange.
- Palliative Care and Partners in care visits continue as already in place.
- Presentation of a negative Rat test on the same day as the visit is essential as is proof of vaccination if it hasn’t already been provided.
- Wearing of a N95/P2 mask always covering your mouth and nose (Note – due to mask requirement consumption of food and drinks is prohibited.)
- Co-operation with all staff directions is essential as is honestly completing the Covid screening questions for the protection of everyone.
Likewise, medical appointments and outings are encouraged for residents outside of Waratah wing, so complete the online excursion form and always adhere to the safety precautions required for all external outings.
Till next time stay out of Covid’s way and enjoy getting cosy in this colder weather!
Stay safe and well.
Yours sincerely,
Viv Allanson
